Boxing Alberta
On January 27th, 2017, the Alberta Boxing community lost a very respected man—Dennis Belair. Boxing Alberta promotes and fosters the development of the sport of amateur boxing throughout the province of Alberta.
Boxing Alberta stands on the idea that boxing will be developed through information, education, positive public relations, leadership, and citizenship.
Project overview
Years ago, the owner of Behrends, Gen Russo, had met Dennis through some mutual friends, Dennis was looking for sponsors for Boxing Alberta.
There began the relationship between the two.
Behrends has supported Boxing Alberta events, for many years and the rest is history.
When the news hit about the passing of Dennis, Gen felt it was important for us to be involved in the Dennis Belair Memorial Tournament.
Gen reached out to to them and asked if we could design and donate an award in Dennis’ honour.
Project details
The award is a cast aluminum photosculpt plaque of Dennis inside a boxing ring.
The corner posts are made of cast bronze.
The base is made of walnut.
Project results
The void wont ever be filled from the impact Dennis made in the community but we hope this award brings back memories of all he has done.
The Dennis Belair Memorial Tournament was held on March 27th, 2021, in Edmonton.
